The Kyrgyz State Medical Institute was established in Bishkek (then Frunze) with three faculties: General Medicine, Pediatrics, and Sanitation.
The first class of 46 doctors graduated from the institute, many of whom went on to serve in medical facilities during World War II.
The institute expanded with the addition of new departments, including Stomatology (Dentistry) and Pharmacy, broadening its educational offerings.
The institute established several research centers, focusing on high-altitude medicine, endemic diseases, and traditional medicine of Central Asia.
Following Kyrgyzstan's independence, the institute was granted university status and renamed as the Kyrgyz State Medical Academy.
The university received international accreditation for its medical programs, opening doors for global partnerships and student exchanges.
Renamed as State Medical University of Kyrgyzstan, the institution implemented comprehensive curriculum reforms based on international standards.
